Men’s Club Championships
Bill Eppelstun has successfully defended his Catalina Club Championships for the second time. Bill was pushed all the way eventually shooting 68 and 70 across the final 36 holes to post an 8 under total for the event. Runner up to Bill was James Dickinson who broke Par in all 4 rounds with a pair of 71’s across the final weekend. The final group on Sunday had 20 birdies between them all in a great display of Championship Golf. With a number of Members following the final groups it created a great atmosphere. Bill is to be congratulated on his scoring as both James and Alex continued to make him work for his 3rd title throughout the day.
B Grade provided the closest result across the 4 Grades. Mark Scullin was leading heading into the last round but the best score of the day came from Shaun Lloyd to equal marks 72 hole total to put the results down to a playoff. After playing an unlucky 2nd shot into the water on the first playoff hole, the 18th, Mark could only manage a 6 which couldn’t match Shaun’s 5. With the crowds all around the 18th Green it was a fitting result for B Grade.
C Grade saw another of our Juniors claim the victory. Jasper Schryver played some consistent golf across the 4 rounds to eventually win by 13 shots from Charlie Azzopardi with Trent Carn and Michael Withers a further shot back.
In D Grade it was Davis Coates taking the title by 8 shots from Anthony McArthur and Michael Zvekic a further shot back in 3rd place.
In the nett events it was James who had the best total of 284 across the 72 holes. B Grade saw Mark claim the nett title finishing on the same total as Shaun. C Grade had Alan Boyce win by a single shot from Trent and in D Grade it was Shane Hunter Williams by 2 shots over Michael.
In the Seniors Section, it was John Neeson who overcame a deficit after 3 rounds to beat Sean Harrison by 2 shots in the Gross event. In the Nett Championships it was Rob McKay, only recently qualified through age, who took home the title by 2 shots from David Coates.
In total we had 224 players compete over the 4 rounds with 70 players completing the entire 72 holes. It was perfect weather for the final 2 rounds and the players all provided the golf to match the weather. Congratulations to each of the winners and for everyone else, there will always be next year.
